First Cabin North America

Summer 2019 – Present (hospitality project on hold due to COVID)
Co-Founders:
Taito Ohe (HBS ’20), Emily Gould (MS/MBA ’20)

Inspired by traditional Japanese hospitality and modern capsule hotels, First Cabin aims to offer a tech-enabled, sophisticated, and affordable stay through modular construction and addresses two pain points in major North American cities such as Boston and NYC: consumers have trouble finding hotels that are simultaneously central, affordable, and comfortable; and landlords have difficulty retrofitting their spaces due to high costs.

While COVID and the complications of global travel has put our hospitality project into a halt, we are currently exploring the potential application of these units into high-touch public environments such as restaurants, offices, and clinics, providing partitions while integrating technologies that detect and sanitize virus and bacteria in real time.
